The Powell Center for Economic Literacy is a resource for teachers and students across the country, with lesson plans, curricula, and information on learning opportunities in the field of economics. The offerings of the Powell Center can be applied in any school environment, by teachers or administrators who are interested in improving students’ understanding of economics.
The Powell Center for Economic Literacy is unique in that it is the only economics education organization co-located within an elementary or secondary academic environment. Located on the campus of Collegiate School in Richmond, Virginia, the Powell Center is able to field test its programs in a school setting to develop and enhance its K-12 model Economics program.
In recent years, the Powell Center for Economic Literacy has had the opportunity to participate in the National ele:Vate Project and expand its impact by working with selected urban community and faith-based educators teaching at-risk students. As a direct result, our interactive, highly engaging lessons have been revised and updated for use in conjunction with basic and advanced subject curricula. The lessons were developed in collaboration with experienced teachers to generate authentic enthusiasm for understanding, appreciating, and applying basic economic principles among a traditionally underserved population.
The mission of the Powell Center is to promote economic literacy among young people. Lesson plans, curricula, and many other offerings can be downloaded from this site and applied in the classroom at no charge. We also sponsor a number of conferences, workshops, competitions, and much more; all of which are designed to help teachers and young people learn more about economics.
