In This Issue

Welcome to the inaugural issue of Econ-Exchange, a joint publication of the E. Angus Powell Endowment and the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond

Each issue of Econ-Exchange features a unique aspect of economics followed by three practical teaching suggestions. In this issue, John Morton leads off, describing the economic way of thinking. Then, three award-winning teachers show how the economic way of thinking can be taught in classrooms from kindergarten to grade twelve.

Karen Hurd shows how teachers can utilize technology to facilitate trade that benefits buyers and sellers. Donna Broughton shows how teachers can use incentives to improve student achievement and behavior, demonstrating that incentives matter. Becky Lam uses a comparison-shopping lesson to illustrate how people measure costs and benefits when making consumer and savings decisions.

We hope you enjoy Econ-Exchange. If you wish to respond, please send us your ideas and tell us about your economics lessons. Understanding how incentives work, we may even pay you for your comments.
